Bedfordshire Federation of Women's Institutes

NFWI Annual Meeting on 4th June 2025

Doors open 9:30 am for 10:00am start

Join us for a fun and engaging Watch Party at Gravenhurst Village Hall to view the Annual Meeting online! Enjoy a lively discussion on the proposed resolution and hear different perspectives for and against.

During the day there will also be several speakers to entertain us.

Angel Strawbridge will also join us as a keynote speaker. Angel is the founder of the Vintage Patisserie, a glamorous hospitality company, author of the ‘Vintage Tea Party’ Series, and perhaps most known and loved for being co-owner – alongside husband Dick – of the Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson; featured in the hugely popular Channel 4 series “Escape to the Chateau”.
Angel is a life-long fan and supporter of the WI, and personifies our tradition of passing on valuable skills and traditions to generations of women. She has also joined us as a new official high-profile Supporter in 2025. We look forward to working with Angel, and Dick, lots more in the coming years!

After university, Emma Bridgewater soon realised that she wanted to start her own company. Her ‘eureka moment’ came in 1984, when she was searching for a pretty cup and saucer for her mother’s birthday. Discovering that everything in the shops was either delicate and formal, or heavy and clunky, she realised there was a gap in the market for pottery that was both beautiful and practical, and that reflected the relaxed, colourful, mismatched home she’d grown up in. Emma sketched out a small collection decorated using cut-out sponges – a traditional technique that became her signature style. The designs were snapped up by Liberty, Harrods, and The General Trading Co, and Emma Bridgewater Ltd was born.

Emma has written the books including Toast & Marmalade and Other Stories, which covers the rollercoaster ride of building the business.

The day will consist two meetings. The first meeting, starting at 10am, is a company meeting to discuss and vote on the changes to the constitution. This will be followed by the Annual Meeting at 11:45am.

To help towards hall costs tickets will be £5 per person.
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.

Please bring your own lunch and a mug for your tea/coffee

Please note, payment will not be required at the time of booking.
You will be asked whether you’ll pay by cheque or bank transfer.
